WBCS: West Bengal Civil Service(WBCS)is a state civil service exam which is the only exam for recruiting Civil service officer throughout the Bengal. The exam is divided into three phases name as Preliminary, Main and Interview.WBCS Prelims is only a screening test. Only the marks of the Main exam will be calculated with Interview marks.

How will you choose your optional paper? |
To select the optional paper you must decide on the basis of two factors.
1)Whatever the subject you select you to have to see first the availability of study material/books etc.
2)How much interest you have on that particular subject.
What is the Indian language paper all about? |
When you choose any language paper you should have good command on that paper. There is some Indian language paper namely as Bengali, Hindi, Nepali, Urdu, Santali.
What are the books you can follow for each subject? |

1)Indian History and Indian National Movement: “Bharoter Itihas”y Dr. Atul Chandra Roy. You can consult other books of “Tulsi Publication” after finishing it.
2)General English: Objective General English by S.P Bakshi(Arihant Publication).You may study P.K De Sarkar for English Comprehension.
3)Current Affairs: You must consult “Protiyogita Darpan” magazine. It is the best magazine for this.
4)General Mental ability: Quantitative aptitude and Reasoning books by R.S Agarwal.
5)Indian Polity and Economy: Indian Polity by Laxmikanth.You can follow Ramesh Singh(Indian Economy). It is a good book.
6)General Science: Chronicle Science books and NCERT books.
7)Geography: NCERT geography books from class 6 to class 12.

There will be a total of 200 marks. Each section carries 25 marks each.

What is the pattern of WBCS Main exam? |
The main examination consists of five compulsory paper and two optional paper. There are four categories of WBCS exam namely Group A, Group B, Group C, and Group D.Every paper whatever compulsory or optional will carry 100 marks and will be of 3 hours duration. Paper 1: Bengali/Hindi/Urdu/Nepali Essay, Précis Writing, Composition and Translation from English into Bengali/Hindi/Urdu/Nepali (Marks 40+20+20+20).
Paper 2: English Essay, Précis Writing, Composition and Translation from Bengali/Hindi/ Urdu/Nepali into English (Marks40+20+20+20).
Paper 3: General Knowledge and Current Affairs (Excluding questions on the Constitution of India and the Five-year Plans(Marks 50+50).
Paper 4: The Constitution of India and the Five-year Plans (Marks 50+50).
Paper 5: Arithmetic and Test of Reasoning (Marks 50+50).

What is the Age limit of WBCS Exam? |
Age: You start to seat the exam at the age of 21 years after completing graduation. But your upper age should not cross 36 years.
What should be your Educational Qualification? |
Educational qualification: Candidates must possess a degree from a recognized University and have the ability to read, write and speak Bengali. Candidates who are graduated from any technical or management stream like as B.Tech, BBA, BCA, etc are also eligible for giving WBCS exam
